TAYLOR Lautner had doubts The Twilight Saga: New Moon would be a success.
Lautner’s costar Alex Meraz — who plays a hot-tempered werewolf named Paul in the movie franchise — says the 17-year-old actor admitted he wasn’t sure the Twilight sequel would make as much money as its predecessor.
“Actually, honestly I remember me and Taylor Lautner were eating and talking about it,” Meraz told Hollyscoop.
“We were like ‘We don’t know if its going to be this big,’ just because we knew Twilight fans watched it over and over again. So we’re like, ‘I don’t know if their gonna do that again.’ To see these numbers I am like cool, we’re alright.”
Those numbers Meraz refers to?
The Twilight Saga: New Moon — which also stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart — had the third-biggest opening weekend in film history.
The flick grossed a whopping $140.7 million during its first weekend in theaters — earning $72.7 million on its Friday opening day alone, according to box office totals released Sunday.
“I dare say in all the office pools, I don’t think anyone had near this top gross,” Summit distribution president Richie Fay said.
New Moon also holds the record for most advance ticket sales. A reported 80% of all ticket buyers were women, according to the totals.
